This Town Ain’t Big Enough For Both Of Us is included on an album to celebrate the infamous Biba Boutique BIBA – CHAMPAGNE & NOVOCAINE OVERVIEW A New Album Celebrating The Iconic BIBA Label and Store From the Record Label that Brought You the Pre-Punk Collection ‘SEX Too Fast To Live Too Young To Die’ September 2004 marks 40 years since the first Biba boutique was started by Barbara Hulanicki and her late husband, Stephen Fitz-Simon. Begun as a mail order company, the Biba brand went on to become one of the most evocative names in British fashion. To mark this special anniversary, the London record label Only Lovers Left Alive will be releasing ‘Biba’ – Champagne & Novocaine a collection of music based around the tracks that were the musical backdrop to Biba in its final glorious incarnation – an opulent, huge lifestyle store situated in the former Derry and Toms building on Kensington High Street. Compiled by Delissia Howard (buyer and the body of Biba), with help from Barbara Hulanicki this collection features the artists whose music shaped the cultural period through which Biba existed.,many of whom played at the venue’s Rainbow Room. Tracks from The New York Dolls, Marlene Dietrich, David Bowie, Edith Piaf, Tim Hardin, the legendary Tiny Tim and many others, will recall a special time and a special place where it was not unusual to see “Freddy Mercury slumped on a gigantic moquette sofa, in white satin loon pants and an old overcoat, ignored and alone, framed by bronze in the window of ex-Derry and Toms Biba” Delissia, quoted in 2004.
