Sparks to Perform at UCLA
SPARKS TO PERFORM EXOTIC CREATURES OF THE DEEP AND KIMONO MY HOUSE FOR UCLA LIVE’S 2009 SEASON
“The brave among us know for a fact that next to no one is making such criminally underrated and startlingly original music, in any genre, these days” – BBC online
“International treasures” – Q Magazine
“The most important band in modern rock” – NY Press
Fresh from their monumental London live performance of all 21 of their albums in 21 nights, Sparks return to Los Angeles on February 14 at Royce Hall at UCLA to perform two landmark albums in their entirety— their most recent Exotic Creatures of the Deep and the 70s sensation Kimono My House, to be followed by a selection of assorted Sparks favorites. The performance will be part of UCLA Live’s 2009 season.
Exotic Creatures of the Deep has received critical praise from such publications as Blurt, The Tripwire, You Ain’t No Picasso and Dusted. NPR recently featured the song “Good Morning” on All Songs Considered and Sparks drummer Steven Nistor interviewed the Ron and Russell Mael for Billboard. The release along with the legendary 21 date London residency also earned the Mael brothers the May cover of beloved formerly LA based magazine Arthur.
1974’s 10 track gem known as Kimono My House is Sparks’ third release and arguably considered to be one of their best and most well-known albums. It is a favorite of Morrissey who asked the band to perform the album in its entirety at the Meltdown Festival in 2004 and the UCLA date will be the third time Sparks will play it all the way through. The album contains the duo’s #2 hit single “This Town Ain’t Big Enough for Both of Us” which the Mael brothers performed on the BBC’s Top of the Pops. The performance is well worth watching and can be seen here.
