Warner Chappell Music has signed an exclusive deal with Ron and Russell Mael of the band Sparks. The deal will see WCM taking over the rights for the first sixteen Sparks albums, including 1974’s Kimono My House – previously published by EMI Music. Under the deal Warner Chappell will also be publishing the new Sparks album, their twentieth, that has just been completed in LA. Warner Chappell Music managing director Richard Manners says, “It is a great catalogue and Sparks are still on top of their game as their new record will show.” Frequently referenced by the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Morrissey, The Hives and Pet Shop Boys, Sparks performed at last years Meltdown festival, and have new European dates lined up for Autumn. Sparks’ manager Sue Harris of Republic Media told MusicWeek she is looking forward to seeing what WCM can do with the catalogue. “Surprisingly the catalogue is largely unexploited and we are looking forward to working with Richard and his team to change this.”
